Mechanics, Story, and More?
Just generating ideas...
Story (subject to change)
Story (subject to change)
- player hates cafeterias
- noticed that cafeteria patrons are basically zombies
- wants to get rid of all the cafeterias around the world
- wants to find origin of cafeterias and all the "tainted food" (Cafeteria Wikipedia) - California late 19th century
- battles cafeteria zombies with "tainted food" - radioactive glowy (help to light up fog of war)
- food fights his/her way to cafeteria boss who is creating the tainted food in Clifton's Cafeteria - from 1935
- card game (pokemon, yu-gi-oh, hydro, etc)
- timer hourglass for time constraint (30sec? 60sec?)
- food cards will have stats and possible AoE
- player debuff cards? - lose turn? time cut in half?
- battleship (grid positioning, fog of war)
- player debuffs (mario kart oil slick on windshield, sticky food - slowed movement, spicy food - lose turn, etc)
- fog of war? (black out, military throw glowing mushrooms to light up area?)
- how to introduce 3D aspect to game?
- world map, player travels around world to defeat cafeteria "chef" bosses
The votes are in...
My Food Fight turn-based strategy artillery game received enough votes to be in the top 4 games presented in class. Now I'm the Team Leader, and things are going to be challenging.
Paper Prototype
So for the prototype, Darrell and I have talked about possible directions we could take it. As a turn-based game, it would make sense to have the prototype as a turn-based card game as well. Trying to be different from the other artillery games like, Worms, GunBound, etc. Why not stick Fog-of-War in and see how players deal with that mechanic?
Battleship has a mechanic similar to FOW, and we will try to implement that into our prototype. Players are dealt cards that would be their available weapons, and with a Battleship-like set up, they would have to guess where the other player has positioned their forces.
Player 1: "I threw my Bowl of Chilli to A4."
Player 2: "You hit my Principal!"
We'll have a team meeting later tonight to discuss this further.
